Arne Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was natural for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” the coach stated.

“It would be nice to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He noted, “I accept my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the confidence. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Recurring Issues and Player Response

The manager lamented known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones concluded, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we'll continue to fight.”

“We’re going to try to get this team return to the top, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
