Jair Bolsonaro has been taken into custody after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.

The former head of state was found guilty of plotting a military coup in September and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he remained under home detention pending legal challenges.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.

Judicial Records Show Escape Concerns

In a document approving the arrest, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring his home detention suggested the ex-president's "intention to break the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.
