A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was approached by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested have been made, police said.

Police revealed that Stock was targeted as he was departing from a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a protective services outfit firing shots on Stock before running away.
The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.
Crucial forensic evidence, like bullet casings, were discovered at the location.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.
"We know they walked a long distance after the shooting, and officers have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," stated a police chief.
