The distinguished British actress Mirren, already recipient of an Academy Award, several BAFTA honors, Globes trophies, five Emmy Awards, along with a Tony Award, is poised to receive another major award to her trophy case: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Ceremony Details

Mirren, octogenarian, formerly made a dame during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow back in 2014, will accept this honor at an event on 8 January, shortly before the Golden Globes main event occur, as part of an event billed by the organization as the Golden Eve event.

Additionally featuring the awarding of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for television achievement, the honoree for which is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is an unstoppable talent, with a career is absolutely exceptional,” said the organization’s president, president of the Golden Globes. “Her captivating roles and commitment to her craft constantly motivate generations of artists and viewers as well. It is a profound honour to bestow upon her the DeMille prize.”

Professional Journey

The star gained prominence in the 1970s with key roles on stage at London’s West End and with the RSC and in cinematic works like O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her starring role in detective drama Prime Suspect broadened her fanbase even more. Additional notable movies include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She received an Oscar for her role as the Queen in the cinematic work The Queen, a role she revisited back in 2013 for The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play regarding the encounters with the Queen and premier Thatcher, a performance for which she received a Tony Award in 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• More recent films include Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, which she narrated.
• Her performance in the Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has garnered acclaim and honors speculation is growing around her performance as a terminally ill matriarch in Kate Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• Next year, audiences will see Mirren in the role of Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, featuring Anderson’s One Battle After Another, Chloé Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
