James is sidelined for approximately a month and is set to miss the beginning of the league campaign because of sciatic nerve pain, the Los Angeles Lakers have confirmed.
The player, 40, agreed to a new agreement with the LA team in June of this year and is set to become the initial competitor to participate across 23 separate NBA seasons.
Sciatica involves pain in the nerve that extends through the back and into the leg.
The athlete has not taken part in pre-season and did not play in the games against the Golden State and the Suns earlier this month because of the nerve issue.
The veteran is expected to be sidelined for each of the five of the Lakers' games in the month of October, including the first game against Golden State Warriors.
LeBron James, the NBA's all-time leading scorer, has not missed before the opening of the NBA year in his 22-season tenure.
His count of 1,562 matches participated in is only 50 away than breaking former Boston star the legend's league record.
The champion played in 70 out of the team's 82 games last term and competed in 71 matches in the prior season.
