Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn mentioned that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will be OK after suffering a gunshot wound in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“What reassures me, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn commented. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” Glenn remarked. “But I will say this, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he expresses himself so positively.”

New York police shared video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it’s not clear if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since learning of the incident. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.

“My initial concern, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but I’m happy at the fact that he will recover excellently.”

Boyd hasn’t played during the current season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was projected as an important component of the team’s updated special teams under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during a practice session on 2 August and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team throughout the season while working his way back.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has been instrumental in guiding others.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and moved to Houston’s squad after that. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
