Man Who Reached For Ariana Grande on the occasion of Film Launch Banned from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped across a fence and touched Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been expelled and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was sentenced to nine days in prison for being a public nuisance and has now been "banned from entering the country again," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to news outlets.
Wen pushed through camera crews and approached aggressively the performer and artist, who was present at the Asian premier for Wicked: For Good on November 13. Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of interrupting performances and star-studded occasions, including leaping onto the platform at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in this summer.
The incident caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of re-traumatising Grande.
The celebrity has discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her concert in Manchester in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere multiple times, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to breach security. Security staff prevented him and held him in place.
Wen later posted video clips expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "free."
Authorities detained him the following day and brought charges against him with causing a disturbance, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge Christopher Goh was cited by media reports as stating that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was wrong to assume he would not experience repercussions.
The actress has not addressed the situation.
The co-star discussed the incident to the press, stating that she "only aimed to verify my friend was secure."
"I believe he had no intention to us harm, but you cannot be certain with these incidents, and I sought to make sure that she was OK. That was my immediate response," she said.
