The visionary game developer, who helped create the immensely successful video game Call of Duty, has died in a traffic collision in California aged 55.

The tragic news was verified by Electronic Arts, which owns Respawn Entertainment, the video game company that he helped create.

The renowned video game developer died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a motorway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday morning, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and we stand with Vince's loved ones, his family, and everyone impacted by his creative vision," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts stated.
