Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, as stated by his wife.

She described the events leading up to the attack, saying they were standing when the gunfire began. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured unspeakable terror in their childhood. They had subsequently immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

In a statement, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the message continued.

One Child

A child who was rushed to the Sydney Children’s Hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

One victim from Israel was a fatality in the incident, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many are still under care, with several in serious condition. Those hurt comprise two police officers who responded to the attack.

A wounded man is a bystander who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the incident as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he heard “dozens and dozens” of shots.

“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
